Strangers can find your work, celebrate it, and even say it changed their life, yet the people who have known you the longest say nothing. If you’ve ever felt that hollow, specific kind of hurt, I’m holding space for it, and then I’m asking us to slow down before we label it as hate.

I start by defining support the real kind, the bearing-weight kind, the showing-up kind and why we keep confusing it with social media engagement. Then I unpack the internet vocabulary we reach for when we feel ignored: lurker, monitoring spirit, hater. Words matter because definitions matter, and missing your post is not the same as rooting for your failure. A lot of what we call “hate” may be indifference, confusion, or a perception gap, and treating everything like opposition can turn neutral people into enemies.

From there, I walk through several reasons your friends and family might not engage: they may still see the old version of you, they may not be your audience, and they may struggle to receive you as an “expert” because that’s not the relationship dynamic you built together. I also challenge the harder possibility that the online version of us and the real-life version of us don’t always match, and people pull back when they sense that disconnect.
